As the current storm, accompanied by strong winds, continues to batter Gaza, the suffering of displaced families across the region remains unrelenting. In fact, their hardships are worsening, with thousands returning to their destroyed homes, only to find no basic means of shelter or protection from the harsh winter conditions.
We call on journalists and local and international media to shed light on the catastrophic humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza. The international community must take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of civilians who have endured 470 days of relentless devastation and displacement.
Our emergency response teams, as the first responders, are still unable to reach the distress calls of displaced families living in tents and overcrowded shelters.
This storm is yet another painful reminder of the unbearable conditions that displaced civilians endure. Many have now gone from temporary displacement to permanent homelessness—whether in the ruins of their former homes or in makeshift tents erected atop the rubble.
We are in urgent need of rescue vehicles, high-capacity water pumps, and heavy-duty equipment to drain the floodwaters that have inundated displacement shelters and other areas across Gaza.
