High Court gives state until 23 November to set a timetable for camp residents' return

The court stopped short of ordering an immediate return or an army withdrawal. The finance minister urged the military not to cooperate with the court.

Israel's High Court ordered the state to give a timetable for the steps it says are needed before residents can return to the Jenin, Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, with a response due by 23 November.

The petition was brought by six Palestinian residents and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Justices Isaac Amit, Alex Stein and Khaled Kabub asked the state whether the work could be speeded up and to respond to claims of shortfalls in aid.

The state says security conditions for return have not been met, that the military did not order residents out and that most left before the operation began.
